Assistant Materials Manager
Hughes Bros. is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Materials Manager who will be responsible to support the Materials Division Manager in operations of pits, quarries, aggregate processing facilities, and a redi-mix concrete plant.

Responsibilities include daily oversight of employees, quality assurance and control, sales of materials, and assistance in maintaining efficient and profitable operations.


Job Functions


Work directly for the Materials Division Manager and collaborate with other team managers and employees

Daily oversight of operations at pits, quarries, and processing plants.

Daily scheduling and work closely with dispatch and batch employees.

Ensure quality assurance during mining and manufacturing, and quality control on job sites.

Ensure all team members are following safety policy and procedures. Develop and maintain proficiency in associated MSHA and/or OSHA regulations.

Develop and/or maintain an understanding of concrete characteristics, mix design, additives, and associated processing.

Develop estimates and pricing, work closely with customers, and ensure quality customer service.

Develop relationships with customers, vendors, suppliers.

Preparation of paperwork required by the MDEP, MSHA, and internal protocol.

Develop experience working with the Hughes team, to support and maintain competitive, efficient and profitable operations.


Desired Education, Skills and Experience


Minimum High School Diploma or GED

Min. Associates Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent experience.

Work experience in construction materials mining and processing, and/or heavy construction.

Knowledge and experience in redi-mix concrete design and operations.

Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA rules and regulations

Proficiency in Microsoft Word or Excel; (or ability to learn).

Excellent communication and supervisory skills.

Experienced Sitework Foreman
5 Years Minimum Earthwork Construction Foreman Experience

Summary of Duties:

Safety - Know, Understand, Communicate, and Ensure Compliance with Safety Regulations

Leadership & Supervision - Able to apply company policies, able to lead crews in an organized and efficient manner.

Planning & Scheduling - Pre-planning daily activities, Identifying & Verifying all tools and materials needed, identifying needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule and communicating them appropriately, prioritizing and sequencing individual tasks to best fit the productivity and schedule of the project. Overcome work challenges.

Quality Control - Responsible for layout of the work. Responsible for compliance with plans and specifications by all those under their supervision, or company approved standard work practices.

Care of Equipment & Assets – Oversee equipment is being cared for properly to limit unnecessary damage or failures resulting in loss of value.

Snow Removal – Responsible for managing snow removal activities during winter months. This is a shared responsibility between other responsible foreman. This involves playing an active role in snow removal, and calling in crews and managing the workflow to ensure all customers are taken care of properly.

Applicant must possess a valid driver's license, have good language and mathematical skills, and have good reasoning ability.

Applicant must be able to meet physical demands of the work and work within potentially hazardous work environments.

Hughes' works in an approximate 30 mile radius, so you will go home to your family every night.
